Talk about dinosaurs.

One ground rule (well i guess it's more of a guideline since im not a staff member who can enforce it) is that many dinosaurs were definitely, unambiguously feathered and i don't want that to be under debate. the idea of dinosaurs not being feathered is indefensible. educate yourself.

What is the likelihood that dinosaurs tasted like chicken and how can we go about expediting cloning research so we can find out?

About as likely as any other bird tasting like chicken, assuming we're talking theropods. As for cloning research, the problem is dinosaurs really didn't leave any recoverable DNA.

are you saying that Jurassic Park lied to me and that we can't actually clone dinosaurs based on blood extracted from long-dead insects?

I am so surprised

That's a rather vague topic of discussion. Are we discussing anything specific about dinosaurs or just dinosaurs like "hmm, styracosaurus, yes..."?

When I was much younger I was obsessed with prehistoric life of all sorts, frequently checked books out of the libraries and watched Walking with Dinosaurs religiously, ooing and ahhing and correcting and "where on earth did you get that ridiculous egg-tube idea!?"-ing. In Primary 1 I tried my hand at paleontology in the school grounds by "digging for fossils" in the stone wall that ringed the school and in Primary 2 we spent a quarter of the year learning about them...

...Which is to say the rest of the class learned about them, the teacher tried to spout really outdated and watered-down information and I'd correct her and go into really detailed trivia for no good reason and she hated me until I'd left that school because of it. I had a great collection of trilobite fossils (as much as I knew there were many other kinds out there you're not going to impress someone with what looks to the eye of a heathen like a little fish or a snail) but I lost half of them in transit when I moved back here from the US.

Don't know what happened to the interest. I think it's safe to say I've never been interested in something down to that fine a detail since. Shame I've forgotten most of what I knew.

"Jurassic Park lied" is a good basis for the beginning of any palaeontology education.

Also, embarrassingly, I thought there was the ghost of a deinonychus in the cupboard and it would eat me if I ever made eye contact. I lived with this fear for several years until I realised that ghosts can't eat people because they are non-corporeal. Shortly after that I realised that ghosts are not real. With that I moved on to more adult, realistic fears like poverty, failure, dementia and the loss of self and meaning for my actions and existence that comes with death.

Frankly I'd rather that my house be haunted by a bloodthirsty dinosaur.

I loved dinosaurs as a kid, and I still do. It's always fun learning new things about dinosaurs.

Jurassic World is still going to be a fantastic movie http://files.b1.jcink.com/html/emoticons/smile.gif

No, it has Chris Pratt and fake dinosaur sculptures in it. Therefore your conclusion is invalid.

Are you kidding? Chris Pratt is the only redeeming feature of that movie.

If I wasn't super super gay, I would totally be in love with Chris Pratt.

Yes, I am. Sort of. Although he really should have stuck to Emmet and Star Lord. (It actually was supposed to be a bit of a Lego Movie joke - "fake dinosaur sculptures" --> cringe.)

Actually CP was my least favorite part of both of those really good movies through. I guess he just doesn't appeal to me.

I don't know how to interpret this statement. You're trans girl, so you like girls? (Am I remembering that right?)

If ya do, gay is not the word I would use. :???:
