I just got this notification to upgrade to Windows 10, and I'm being told that I shouldn't do it because I won't be able to play DVDs anymore and Microsoft is taking over my computer with its updates.

Microsoft = EVIL BIG CORPORATE POWUH.

I think I'm going to delay/never do it because it will probably screw up all of my program compatibility.

What do you think?

I think XP was the last good Windows system. http://files.b1.jcink.com/html/emoticons/tongue.gif

But yeah, having had to suffer through Windows 8.1, I have serious doubts in Microsoft's capability to do anything right anymore. Chances are you made the right call. http://files.b1.jcink.com/html/emoticons/tongue.gif

I ####### hate U2, specifically the Edge.  ####-munching loser has the gall to rig his guitar up to so many delay/echo effects pedals that he strums a chord once and it just keeps repeating, and then tries to say that he's "filling in the notes that aren't there."  You know how you fill in the notes that aren't there, asswipe?  YOU hugginG LEARN TO PLAY YOUR DAMN INSTRUMENT AND YOU ACTUALLY PLAY THEM.  #### you, you goddamn puss-guzzling poseur; #### your piss-poor musicianship and your denigration of an art form.  Get ######, the Edge.

Also you have the douchiest stage name in all of recorded history, you choadely wanker.

Can't be worse than 8, I don't watch DVDs on it anyway and apparently it's capable of playing xbox one games so I probably will update once stuff's in order. At the same time I'll probably reinstall Linux Mint as a backup OS.

I agree that it'll be a cold day in hell when Microsoft manage to do something right, but they'll be hard pressed to do worse than Windows 8.

I'm on Windows 7, and I haven't had too many problems.

(I decided to download the update for Windows 10 but not install it. The reason being is that EVIL CORPORATE POWER will probably charge for the upgrade later, so I'll just hold on to the downloaded version until my Win 7 dies and/or my programs catch up. Probably the former.)

Windows Vista sucked.

Windows 7 was okay.

Windows 8 sucks.

I'm hoping Windows 10 will form a pattern and be okay.

Basically this. ever since Win98, major Windows builds have tended to follow a good-then-bad-then-repeat pattern. Windows 98 was good; Windows 2000 was bad. Windows XP was exceedingly good; Windows Vista was usable, but bloated and bad. Windows 7, in my esteem, got everything just right; Windows 8 is an unmitigated disaster.

Here's hoping 10 follows the pattern and is, at the very least, decent.

This is completely irrelevant to everything ever, but the fact that they went from 7 to 8 to 10 is driving me insane.

I thought i heard the reasoning that a ton of programs are coded to interpret a system named windows 9 as windows 95 or windows 98 so they'd break a ton of programs doing it.

I'd be interested in trying it, but I don't really want to take the risk, because my laptop is old and I feel like upgrading to a flashy new system would probably be more than it could handle.
