Hey there small collective of my tiny forum! After 9 months of work (longer if you count writing and learning the songs), my band Pareidolon has finally released its first album. It was made in our "free" time during the final days of music college, so it was rushed and not everythig was done as I'd intended but in most cases everything went super well. and the stuff that didn't just gives it character!

You can find the free download on our bandcamp page which also allows you to give a little money if you think it's worthwhile. This whole thing was done on volunteer work, so I don't feel bad giving it away for free at all. I just hope people enjoy my creation.

okay so here is the tale of what has happened to me this week, and although most of it was bad there was some good stuff and I'm actually in a remarkably good mood about it all so I'll just include everything.

the week started off with me getting my new car back from the shop because the starter died the day before, which was also the day I sold my old car for less than half of what I wanted for it. Repairs cost $400. then Tuesday happened, which was my birthday - I had been feeling really low about myself and my life and really didn't want to celebrate much, but I wanted to hang out with a few friends at some point just to have something to do. So I wake up feeling miserable, nobody is home, I have no gifts to look forward to unwrapping because my dad put $1000 toward a new apple computer as a birthday/christmas gift (not being selfish, super grateful. just saying there was no reason to be excited for today specifically). Anyway so I mill about the house and my throat starts feeling coarse, which usually singals the onset of a cold for me, until mid afternoon when one of my friends comes over and then has to leave shortly after to study for his finals. The other two friends inform me they can't make it also due to finals, so I go have a quick lunch with my dad and then go see Doctor Strange (which was pretty awesome). My sister texts us from Ontario saying my insane mother has decided she wants to come back to BC and stay with us and my dad actually agrees under certain conditions. I am not happy about this. Went home still feeling really sad, and noticed the right headlight on my car had been smashed somehow. Tried to call my friend Ashley to maybe help me cheer up a bit (for those who don't know, this is a girl I've had a huge infatuation with for about a year now and is possibly my best friend currently) but she didn't answer as is fairly usual for her. So I went to sleep.

so wednesday goes well enough, Ashley calls me at work to inform me she found my signed Machinae Supremacy CD (I had it shipped to her to save on shipping costs) that she thought she'd lost and she was stoked, we chatted for a bit and made plans for me to come pick her up halfway between our towns so we could all go see Rogue One as a group. Thursday is uneventful.

Wake up at 6am on Friday to get ready to head out, waiting for other friend James to show up at 6:45 - he sleeps through his alarm and shows up at 7:30. My cold is definitely a cold now and I feel like crap. He also realizes he forgot his wallet so I have to lend him money for food. I should lay out this area for you all since nobody would know, but the town I'm in is called Nelson and Ashley lives in Golden. Cranbrook is directly in the middle, which is where we're meeting, and there's two routes to get there - one involves a treacherous and steep mountain pass, and the other has an irregular and unreliably ferry. So we decide to take the pass so we're not even more late, and halfway up my car starts losing power in 4th gear. Switch down to 3rd for the remainder of the climb and am going 30km under the speed limit as a result. Make it to Cranbrook a bit late, Ashley texts saying her mom is driving super slow and she's also gonna be even later so we just hang out in mcdonalds for an hour waiting for her. When she finally shows up we head back, and my check engine light comes on so I pull over to see if anything's wrong but I don't really know much about cars. Everything looks fine, no smoke or bad smells, so we continue on and assume it's a censor glitch like my dad's car has.

I screwed up and missed my turn and can't be bothered to turn around on the busy highway so we take the ferry route home instead and miss the ferry by 10 minutes. Naturally it's one of two 2-hour gaps in the schedule so we just sit there and be bored for a while. Ashley also informs James and I that as christmas presents, she made the three of us ordained ministers for the Church Of The Flying Spaghetti Monster which was pretty awesome. Finally get on the ferry and make it home much later than expected and immediately head to the theatre and get a spot at the front of the line for the movie two hours early. It was very cold and the other half of our group showed up 20 mins before the doors opened and let us suffer alone, bastards. So we watch the movie and it's great and we go back to my friend Aybars' house to hang out til midnight or so, then Ash and I drive back to my house because super tired. Get two thirds of the way when I'm pulled over at a routine impaired driving check but I don't drink so I'm not worried at all. They check my license and send us on our way for about 3 blocks until I see the lights go on and they pull us over again. Officer informs me my license has expired which I had completely forgotten about even though I had a month's warning to renew it. I am an idiot. So I get a $300 ticket two blocks away from my house, Ashley has to drive the car home but she only has her Novice license for some reason which require an "N" magnet be visible on the car which we don't have. Would have been another $200 fine for her but the officer let us off on that one. We realize this means she's now stranded in Nelson 6.5 hours away from her city and I kinda get really miserable and she tries unsuccessfully to cheer me up before we go to bed.

Saturday morning I wake up early and phone the license services number and beg them for options, since the office in town is closed on weekends and I reeeeaaaaaally need a license. Lady on the phone informs me that the office is another town 40 minutes away, Castlegar, is open but we run into the problem of how to get there. I have a brilliant idea to print off a picture of one of the N magnets and tape it to my car and hope for the best, so Ashley drives us to Castlegar where I renew my license for another $80 and then everything seems like it'll work out. So we start heading out to take her all the way home to Golden and half an hour in my engine light comes on again and the car starts shuddering. I keep going until I find a nice pullout area on the highway to stop and check the engine again, only as I pull over I realize this is in fact not a paved pullout but actually just a ditch filled with snow and am instantly stuck. Luckily two dudes in a truck passed by and helped us push the car out, and we keep driving until we get to Salmo where I check the engine again and still find nothing noticeably wrong. Call my dad to get his opinion but he doesn't answer, so without any other choices we continue on with a shuddering, warning-light-blinking car going over one of the most dangerous mountain passes in the province, because to have taken the ferry route from castlegar would have been at least an hour's detour plus the wacky ferry schedule etc.

Anyway my dad finally calls me back when we get to Cranbrook again, and advises me to fill the oil just in case, even though when I checked the other times it was fine. I do that and we eat lunch and let the engine rest a bit which seems to help slightly for the drive (4th gear works again) and we just pray nothing else goes wrong. We somehow manage to make it to her house with a total trip time of roughly 9 hours (should have been 7 at the very latest). Things go very well from then on, Ashley sets up a bed on a futon for me, we drink some tea and eat some crackers and stuff, talk for a couple hours, she shows me her room and all the cool ancient occult books she collects and gives me some cold medicine to help with my incessant coughing and sneezing from the entire trip, and a sleeping pill so I can actually get a good rest. I also finally get to see the expensive CD I ordered six months ago in person!

Sunday morning I wake up around 10am planning to leave around 11:30, but find out that my mom is now at my house and reeeaaally don't want to go home. Ashley's mom offers to take us out for lunch so I trash my plan and we have a good time, I end up leaving at almost 2pm and hope my car doesn't spontaneously explode. Discover it now only shudders if I go over 90kph, which is still unfortunate as the speed limit for the majority of the drive is 110. So that already delays me quite a bit, plus because I left so late most of my drive home is in the dark with deer, elk, moose and rabbits ALL OVER THE ROAD so I have to be super careful to not die. I figure I should take the ferry route home to spare whatever is left of my engine the trouble of that steep hill again, and then I notice the cruise control is making a weird ticking noise. Not wanting to take any chances in such snowy conditions, I drive the whole way home in the dark without cruise control going 20km under the speed only to arrive at the ferry landing the exact instant they lower the gate and the boat pulls away. Amazingly I managed to hit the second 2-hour gap in the schedule and am stuck there yet again. Finally get home around 10:30 with another almost-9-hour-drive finished, my car has at least 4 things wrong with it, my whole body aches from sickness, my throat feels like it's been torn open, my phone battery has decided to stop working unless it's constantly plugged in, my mom is now living in the room beside mine being crazy, and with gas, food, car repairs from before, movie tickets and license issues added up I am almost $1000 poorer than I was a week ago. And that's not including however much it's gonna cost to get whatever's wrong with my car repaired.

And amazingly I had such a good time hanging out with Ash for 3 days that I don't even care
